C2E2 Funzies

Hey gang!

Still don't post on this thing as much as I'd like to, but anywho-

C2E2 was a blast!  I, of course, cosplayed as the character Dallas from the game "Payday 2", one of my favorite co-op games.

The game is about a group of bank robbers, so, naturally, each bank robber needs a mask.  For the first time in a long while, I had decided to sculpt the mask out of insulation foam!

Here's some of the step by step!

It was a little rough, but work and such kept me away from putting a lot of the finishing touches on it I wanted.  It wasn't smooth, I couldn't put the fine details in it, and the paint job was crap.  It was pretty rushed at the end, but I was still pretty pleased with it.  I was the only one at c2e2 that looked like they didnt' just put on a rubber mask that came with the game, and put on their dad's old suit.  I went for all the details!  Ammo bag at the side, a big black duffel/loot bag on my back, bullet proof jacket, a stupid tweed coat, and of course the gloves!

More art and such coming soon!

Some sculptures

So gang!

I spent a while working on some movie props for a feature film here in Detroit, and I can finally post a few pictures of them now that it's been about a year since working on the project.  I can't say what, or with who, but it's for an upcoming movie.  Anywho  take a look!

This is a giant door archway. The main character enters through it's mouth through swinging doors.  It was held up by giant pillars we made that fit right into the actual structure of an already existing door frame in Detroit.  Lots of fun. Aprox. dimensions are about 4' high and 9' wide

Here's some concept art for the door!

Eventually the director just wanted something that looked pretty similar to the original sculpture from France

This is a blocking piece for lighting and sizing purposes for the actors to get a feel what it'd be like using the real deal.  Just to see what the director wanted and such.  Aprox. size is about 1' wide and 3' long

I'll have some more stuff to post later with my 3D work, and some progress pics of a sculpt I'm working on for C2E2!

3D Update!

Hey all!

First post in a while, but I wanted to update.  Recently got a job at the Detroit Institute of Arts working guest services and also working for the exhibit "Watch Me Move: The Animation Show", which is a history of the art of animation!  Stoked!  Gonna get to meet Paul Dini and a whole bunch of other of my heroes when they come and lecture during special screenings.

Second, I'm back in school again, this time learning 3D animation.  I'm only taking one class at a time, since I'm not taking out any loans, so I'm trying to pay it off as I go.  Which means I have to be responsible and no more chainsawing for a while.  Sad face.

But here's my first ever build in 3DS Max!  It's incredibly rough, considering this is after my second time playing with the software.  I'm sort of pleased though!

Anywho- Bender!

That's all for now, folks!  More progress as it occurs!  If you have any tips, tricks, pointers and whatever else, please, tell me!  I need to figure this stuff out, and it'd be greatly appreciated!

Playing Catch Up! Days 7&8

I was so incredibly busy with family stuff this weekend that I didn't have a chance to really draw.  So here I am playing catch-up!  Two characters in one picture counts as two, I don't care who says otherwise. Day 7&8 Zod and Darkseid!

I like this one, and I want to work on it more. I'm also thinking I should start a Tumblr, as I don't think anybody uses Blogspot anymore.

Anywho, here's to drawing more stuff soon! Tomorrow Superboy and Supergirl!

Bizarro and Brainiac WIPs

Hey gang!

I started doing the Bizarro and Brainiac drawings and here's their WIPs.  Wednesday and Thursday nights are incredibly rough for me, since I don't get out of work until 5pm and have to be back at work at 5am, so there's not much drawing time, and when there is, I'm pretty beat after 12 hours of work.  Since I get out really early tomorrow, I'll try to have them both finished up, as well as work on General Zod.  I'm realizing that I'm spending to much time trying to make a huge piece, when I should just be trying to draw the character, but I was getting bored of that, and I could use some portfolio pieces.  The characters I really like, I'm going to try and do full pictures for, everybody else just gets their portrait, bwahaha.

This Bizarro drawing is supposed to make reference to the Action Comics #1, or Superman's first appearance.  I'm gonna have him with his foot on the car, and that red blob up front is the same screaming guy.

Brainiac is pretty Matrixy looking.  His right arm needs work, but it's a decent place holder for now.  I wanted to do something different than the other Brainiacs that I saw.  A good mix of mechanical and human, sort of H.R. Gieger, with an attempted art nouveau layout feel.  Notice I said "attempted".

Bizarro and Brainiac are two of my favorite villains, as well as Darkseid, so I really wanted to spend a good amount of time on them, instead of cranking out rushed garbage like I did with Parasite.  These ones, I'd like to make into a nice and neat finished picture once they're complete.

Anywho, another post tomorrow. Same Bat-Time, same Bat-Channel.  Wait, shoot, we're doing Superman now.

Day Four Bonus Post!

The more reguar Mr. Mxyztplk I had started on.  I felt like everybody was going to do something like this, so I tried to do something different.

Mr Mxyzptlk!

Remember kids, Mix-Yzz-Spit-Lick!

He's always been fun for me, at least the ones I saw voiced by Gilbert Godfried.
My first drawing was going to be him as The Great Gazoo with a Superman Fred Flintstone, because they always seemed very similar to me, but I didn't feel like drawing two people tonight, considering I have to be up at 5:30am for work.

I'm out!
